DRAG SHOWDOWN ~ DYNO SHOOTOUT ~ CAR SHOW ~ SCENIC CRUISE

THE HISTORY OF MAXUS

MAXUS has been a yearly tradition for a decade. It is the biggest gathering of Nissan Maximas and Infiniti I30/I35s in the world, and for 2009 it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. You've been to local car meets and shows before, but they pale in comparison to MAXUS. Some of the fastest and most heavily modified Maximas come to compete for dominance at the drag strip, auto-x course and car show. If you've never seen a bunch of grocery-getters take over an entire city, then you've never come to MAXUS!

It all began in 1999 in Dallas. More than 100 Maxima owners from all over the country came to meet other enthusiasts who they had only spoken to on a primitive online conversation forum. Participants could race at a road course event, there was a Q&A session with a Nissan engineer, and people could get a first look at the then-new 2000 Maxima. Other events and attractions around the city ensured the first MAXUS was enjoyed by the whole family as well as the dedicated enthusiast, and it set the stage for every MAXUS since then.

The following year the event was held in Atlanta and included a scenic mountain cruise in addition to the usual BBQ and car show.

In 2001 MAXUS moved to the Washington D.C. area, and more than 100 cars came to the drag racing event at the now-abandoned 75-80 Drag Strip and for the BBQ. Forum members even chipped in to fly a member from the West Coast to the event!

Between 2002 and 2004 MAXUS skipped a beat and took the form of regional events such as D.C. BBQs and the 2004 Maxima West event in Tucson, Arizona. By 2005 Maxus was back when Matt Blehm and his company BlehmCo organized and hosted the event in Dallas. The event included racing at a road course as well as a dyno shootout. In 2006 Maxus was again in Dallas with road course and dyno events.

MAXUS moved to Chicago in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, events such as drag racing, indoor go-karting and a scenic cruise kept people busy during the weekend. For the 2008 event, Nissan brought out a very early example of the new 2009 Maxima for people to check out and look over. While in Chicago many visited popular tourist sites, and everyone enjoyed the BBQ and car show on the final day of the three-day event.

Attendants from all over the North America have made past MAXUS events THE place to be for Maxima enthusiasts, and after 8 years MAXUS is coming back to the Washington D.C. area in 2009. Whether you just want to put names to faces, enjoy the races, or just relax and have fun, MAXUS 2009 will have it all. Don't miss it!
